I am the Marketing Administrator for Vehicles For Business, cool title eh?!! Although I did read somewhere and next to my name once it said "Data Loader" . I Couldn't be having a title like that for such a distinguished role. I feel to tell you about this job I need to tell you a little bit about my background and how I came to work for V4B. I work within a team of two people, myself and Chris.
I applied for a job here some 8 years ago, I forget what the role was but unfortunately I did not get the position, after a time of feeling like I was getting nowhere I made the decision to sacrifice experience for education. I signed up to college to do a Administration course, passed that then decided I wanted to go on to University. So I decided to take a BSC Hons Degree in Creative Media Computing, having passed that I was back to square one and thousands in debt (good old Student Loan).
I have no idea what it's like in other countries but in the UK there is a perception that people on the dole are "scroungers" I can speak from experience having been on it for many years prior to working here. There seems to be some kind of envy of the unemployed in the UK for getting to "sit round and do nothing" what is more worrying is that this seems to be the same for everyone on the dole across the board. Let me tell you it's not all it's cracked up to be. Unemployment has been known to cause depression. sitting at home doing nothing all day is no fun. Anyway enough about my background and my take on unemployment.
I got the call to come work at V4B in December 2014, Usually when you think of a job title, you can relate it to something in a different industry, for example a data analyst for an estate agents, still does the same thing as a data analyst for a dentist to a certain degree. The role I do here is done by teams of people at other brokers so knowing that it sometimes takes more than one person to do my job at smaller brokers in some case is a really good feeling to have.
My first day on the job was really nerve-racking especially when I realised that once my training was finished I would be let into the big wide world of pricing to find and add onto our website, which while being a really awesome job, could equally be frightening as one mistake could end up landing a car on our website for £9, all fun and games until that happened one day, but I will get to that in due course.
I was lucky because my colleague doing the job I was taking on was still here to train me, I was shown a website called ContractHireandLeasing.com and told "You need to get to the cheapest on these pages" and given a massive spreadsheet of dealerships that we as a company had used for the last few years. I had very little knowledge of cars before I came here but I knew computers like the back of my hand having been what you would consider a computer geek before it was cool to be one, those of a certain age will understand.
I will leave it there for now, as I don't want to ruin it all by telling everything in the second instalment. Remember the £9 cars I joked about? Well next week I will tell you how it happened, among other struggles I faced with my new role in the company.
Peace out, more next week folks!
